35 YEARS IN THE LIFE : CBC NEWSWORLD

In the late 1960's, CBC Television created a groundbreaking series called Five Years in the Life.  The idea was quite innovative for its day -- profile ordinary Canadians living ordinary lives, tell stories everyone can identify with, then come back five years later to see what happened to those hopes and dreams. In total, 42 families saw their lives captured on film, but only a handful were followed up before the series was cancelled and went into storage in 1973.

With Island Images Salt Water co-produced 35 YEARS IN THE LIFE. We explored what happened to some of those families creating a compelling and poignant 5-part series of documentaries providing a rare look at the lives of a generation of Canadians. The stories of these families mirror the story of this country in the latter half of the twentieth century reflecting what it means to be Canadian.
